Course Overview:
Ecofeminism provides a holistic
framework from which to understand the connections between environmental
and social justice issues. In this class we critically analyze
various key positions within ecofeminist theory, asking such questions
as: Is the degradation of the environment linked to the oppression of
women, people of color, and developing countries? Are women closer to
nature than men? What are the implications of using terms like "mother
earth"? Must environmentalists be feminists? Must feminist be
environmentalists? Spiritual, philosophical, and experiential perspectives
are examined from an interdisciplinary perspective. Class participation
and a joint class project are important components of the course.
