Course Overview:
This six-credit Capstone course offered
at Portland State University takes an in-depth look at natural resource
management issues in the Pacific Northwest, with a focus on forest
ecosystems and livelihoods. Non-timber forest products (NTFPs) provide
vivid case studies. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking,
communication and conflict resolution skills as we investigate the
cultural, economic, political, and ecological issues related to NTFPs.
Students will gain experience with participatory research methods as they
meet and interview key NTFP stakeholders as a part of their group project.
