Explanation of IFCAE Titles


Partners
The founders of IFCAE envisioned a core staff that worked closely to develop and work on projects together.  "Partner" was chosen to convey the egalitarian principles by which the core staff would relate to each other and make decisions about what projects the organization would pursue.

Management Team
IFCAE uses a horizontal management structure to conduct the daily operation of the organization.  This Management Team as it is called replaces the need for an Executive Director.  This approach builds capacity, stability, and a vested interest in organizational well-being across more people in the organization.

Visiting Scholars
This refers to an outside consultant working for IFCAE on a project.  By "scholar" we mean somebody who has extensive knowledge about a particular subject.  We may have hired them to work on a current project or it may be someone who brought a project to our organization.

Volunteers
Volunteers are people who give knowledge and time to the organization as an unpaid contribution.  Volunteers are highly valued in nonprofit charities like IFCAE.  If you have an interest in helping we welcome your questions. It is important to understand that IFCAE does not have a central office where you can work so you will need to make arrangements for your own work space. Sometimes arrangements can be made to work at the home offices of the Partners or whatever VS's might currently be involved in a project with IFCAE. If you have questions about volunteer opportunities please let us know your background and with which projects IFCAE is involved that you would be interested in helping. Etc.

Interns
An intern is similar to a volunteer except that internships are usually designed as contracts between the individual, IFCAE, and sponsor such as a college or university department.

Advisors
Advising is another type of volunteer activity.  Advisors typically have extensive knowledge or experience on a given topic relevant to a project.   IFCAE regularly assembles teams of advisors to help provide input and review projects.

Technical Consultants
IFCAE regularly pays experts to help with financial, legal, Internet and other areas beyond our internal capacity.
